All of us know Internet is a relatively new enviroment. But ¿does anyone know what is the oldest domain name of the net? Surely you might think it is one of the giants of computers, like Microsoft, IBM or Sun. Well, neither one nor other. It is about of symbolics.com. And although the ancient Symbolics, Inc. no longer exists, the domain is still active, and offering information of the dissapeared company:
The old Symbolics was the premier producer of special-purpose computer systems for running and developing state-of-the-art object-oriented programs in Lisp.
It was registered on March, 15th of 1985, more than 23 years ago. As curiosity, the next year were registered ibm.com (March 19th) and hp.com (March 2nd). The site apple.com was registered on February 18th of 1987, microsoft.com on May 2nd of 1991 meanwhile yahoo.com waits until January 17th of 1995, less than I could thinked.
But more strange is that, after opening the “season of domains”, it takes so many time in registering the high valued sex.com, beer.com or shop.com.
PS: Highlight that it is the oldest .com domain, because it is proof of domains .net registered before, like nordu.net (Juanuary 1st of 1985).
